The public conference, organized by a coalition of environmental NGOs (BirdLife International, CEE Bankwatch Network, Friends of the Earth Europe, Transport & Environment, WWF) will bring together representatives from European regions, local authorities, the European Parliament, the European Commission, Member States, the European Investment Bank and cross sectoral stakeholders, to discuss the role of the reformed Cohesion Policy in the next Multiannual Financial Framework 2014 – 2020 and its potential to deliver on EU’s sustainable development objectives.

Scope of the conference is to discuss and assess new investments fields and opportunities of the next Cohesion Policy that can foster sustainable regional development, provide multiple benefits such as secure long-term jobs in the environmental, energy efficiency and green technology sectors, improve the sustainability of regional economies and help achieving EU’s environmental objectives in the areas of climate, biodiversity and resource efficiency.

The half-day event is split into two parts, and will close with a cocktail reception. The first panel will discuss the political implications of a reformed Cohesion Policy for the European Regions and the added value it delivers for the EU as a whole. The second panel includes experts from various sectors, institutions, beneficiaries and from implementing bodies to debate and exchange on how the new green investment priorities can best be implemented on the ground.

The conference will conclude with a cocktail reception.

It will be interpreted in English, French and German.
