Concern for irrigation, drainage and other water management measures in national recovery and resilience plans

The briefing outlines proposals for widespread irrigation and water management measures within six central and eastern European recovery plans and explains why these measures will likely be damaging to biodiversity. These include the development of intensive irrigation, drainage and other water management projects that could have potentially disastrous impacts on nature and biodiversity. These is strong cause for concern that such measures will not respect the ‘do no significant harm’ criteria and conflict with the relevant EU water and biodiversity legislation.
