Gender-related issues in the urban mobility sector in the Canton of Sarajevo
Study | 5 December 2023
Efforts are being made to improve Sarajevo’s much-maligned urban transport system. Yet, the city’s motorways and roads remain choked with private motor vehicles and heavy rush-hour traffic. Meanwhile, concerns over unreliable public transport and environmental issues persist.
Many of these issues disproportionately affect vulnerable groups, including women, who have particular travel patterns and needs. Sarajevo Open Centre has conducted a survey to assess the safety and accessibility challenges faced by women using Sarajevo’s public transport system. Their new study provides recommendations for investors and authorities tasked with steering the future development of public transport in Bosnia’s capital city.
