The matter of concern is the use of EU Cohesion funds for deterioration of the conservation and integrity of habitats and species in Kresna gorge (Bulgaria) protected by EU law and International Conventions. The EC did not prevent and ensure that the Struma Motorway construction, financed with the EU cohesion funds, is planned and implemented in line with the EU Treaty requirements and requirements of the Regulations relevant to the Cohesion funds (specifically p.14 (Preamble) [1]and art.6[2]of Regulation No 1303/2013).
