Uku joined Bankwatch in 2021 as National campaigner and Advocacy Expert in Estonian Green Movement.

His professional work has concentrated on making markets more sustainable. He has worked on impact investments in Africa and the MENA region, sustainable finance in Estonia, inclusive disaster risk insurance in the Philippines and Asia, and sustainable energy policies in Estonia and the EU. He holds a degree in MSc International Development and Management from Lund University, Sweden.

Estonia has good intentions to use the recovery fund to become more resilient while supporting the green transition. However, these intentions are overshadowed by uncertainty and lack of scrutiny, as there is no publicly available strategic framework to bring all of the plan’s measures together, and many measures proposed could in fact undermine the European Green Deal.
