Western Balkan cities: Pressure with no release

As urban populations expand, cities face increasing challenges in providing essential services, tackling inequality, and managing climate impacts. This is particularly the case in the Western Balkans, where poor governance, corruption, and climate vulnerability are exacerbating urban problems.
Using case studies from Belgrade, Sarajevo and Skopje, our report examines urban planning practices, the consequences of poor governance, and the need for sustainable infrastructure investment. It concludes with recommendations for improving governance and urban resilience through participatory planning and public investment.
