Bridging the gap: Financing national nature restoration plans

Bridging the gap: Financing national nature restoration plans

Briefing    |    12 February 2026

The Nature Restoration Law is a major agreement that represents a significant opportunity to halt and reverse biodiversity loss in Europe. A year and a half after the official adoption, Member States are in the process of drafting their restoration plans.

This briefing provides information to national authorities on how they can best use current and future EU funds to finance their restoration plans. It also identifies several barriers at the national level that prevent EU funds from being used effectively and makes proposals on how to overcome them.
