In Slovakia, the end of November is devoted to the popular One World film festival that focuses on the topic of development. This year, Bankwatch premiered the documentary “No peaceful atom” at hte festival.

The film portrays the nuclear sector in Slovakia’s neighbouring country Ukraine and the controversial European public funding for the extension of the country’s aging nuclear reactors.

Following the film was a discussion between two Bankwatch campaigners, Iryna Holovko (Ukraine) and Dana Mareková (Slovakia), and expert and blogger Juraj Mesík. Topics included how energy, civil society and democracy are related in today’s Ukraine.

The event was accompanied by a photo exhibition.
