A Chinese agreement to finance a high-speed railway from Belgrade to Bucharest was one of around $10bn worth of investments, mainly in the energy and infrastructure sectors, signed during a China-Central and Eastern Europe summit this week. By funding the railway, Beijing hopes to establish a rapid connection from Greece’s Pireaus Port through the Balkans to the EU member states of Central Europe.

Istovremeno istraživanja pokazuju da je veliki broj planiranih ili projekata koji se realizuju baš u zaštićenim regijama. U Srbiji su od 88 projekata hidroelektrana obuhvaćenih istraživanjem mreže Benkvoč, 57 “grinfild” projekti od kojih je 34 u zaštićenim zonama.

NGOs warn that Albanian families expected to give up their properties to make room for the Adriatic pipeline project, TAP, have not been adequately compensated, while some have faced threats of government expropriation. Four families in Albania have submitted complaints to the European Investment Bank, EIB, over the low level of compensation they have been offered from TAP representatives for the displacement of their properties as a result of building the pipeline.
