Review of the coal sector in Tajikistan
Study | 18 December 2017
After creating an “investment-friendly climate” in Tajikistan, the financial support of the country’s coal sector was resumed by both the government and foreign and national investors. This study provides a detailed assessment of the state of affairs in Tajikistan’s coal sector and in the development of solutions for environmental protection.
96 percent of Tajikistan’s electricity is produced by hydropower, with over-production in summer acute under-production in winter. To respond to the electricity shortage, the country’s coal power capacities are planned to increase. To mitigate the resulting environmental and health problems, advanced technologies must be introduced.
