‘It’s not only the problem of the Nenskra dam, there are 36 dams planned in Svaneti.’

Gioni Tsindeliani, a native of Nakra, is a fierce opponent of the Neskra dam. Similarly to his neighbours he is convinced that the plant presents enormous safety threats to the village seated in a geologically unstable area.

“It will be dangerous for us if they transfer water from the Nakra river. There are several places in the mountains around the village where landslides and mudflows occur. When a mudflow hits our village, it accumulates debris and it is very dangerous. Water is then needed to clean the debris and transport it downstream. But if little or no water remains in the Nakra river what force will remove the silt and stones?”

Svaneti is threatened by massive hydropower developments

We are trying to prevent that and preserve the regions unique way of life.
