“My parents, our family used to sing Svan songs. They were singing very well, especially my mother. She taught me singing and playing the ‘Tchuniri’.”

At the Ethnographic Museum in Usghuli, there are three ladies that still know how to play the ancient instruments and bring Svan history to life. They know as well that it’s their turn to preserve them.

“My parents, our family used to sing Svan songs. They were singing very well, especially my mother. She taught me singing and playing the ‘Tchuniri’,” explains Jano.

The family that runs the Ethnographic Museum in Usghuli sing the traditional songs of Svaneti and play ancient instruments such as the juniri.

Svaneti is threatened by massive hydropower developments

We are trying to prevent that and preserve the regions unique way of life.
