“Sometimes you have to pinch yourself and think: ‘Am I living in the lord of the rings?'”

Tony and his dog in the yard of his house with the beautiful Svaneti landscape at the background

Tony, a British-Canadian who lives since 18 years in Georgia. Amazed by the unexplored history of Svaneti, Tony has always found a way to live in Svaneti, whether it was teaching English in Ushguli or later setting up a guesthouse. He is now the owner of the Hanmer Guesthouses.

“There is a lot of depth to things up here”, he explains. “If you walk through this place you’ll be kicking up the dust of a thousand years of history without even knowing it.”

Tony lives in Etseri.

Svaneti is threatened by massive hydropower developments

We are trying to prevent that and preserve the regions unique way of life.
