Czech recovery plan a few steps away from being on the right path

Thanks to pressure from civil society, several harmful investments in highways and gas infrastructure were taken out of the Czech recovery plan, pushing it towards more of a green recovery. Still, an almost complete lack of allocations for biodiversity and several questionable climate measures set the plan back.


Czechia ‘unambitious’ climate laggard according to Commission assessment

In October, the Commission a comprehensive assessment of all NECPs that were submitted by Member States earlier in the year. The plans should outline the pathway to achieving the EU’s collective goal of a 40 per cent reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 (compared to 1990 levels) by increasing the share of renewables and improving energy efficiency.


Concern over Czechia’s alleged plans for EU transition funds

Prague’s share of a multi-billion euro ‘just transition fund’ (JTF) to mitigate social upheaval as coal-dependent regions move to cleaner forms of energy could end up in the hands of business magnates and energy firms, CEE Bankwatch Network has warned following Czech media reports.
