Anna is Bankwatch’s Ukraine Reconstruction Campaigner, working on green reconstruction and environmental safeguards in Ukraine’s recovery. Her work focuses on alternative sources of energy for communities, energy resilience, and the alignment of Ukraine’s energy policy and public investment management system with EU standards. Originally from Kyiv, she holds an MSc in Environmental Sciences and Policy from Central European University and is based in Bratislava.

The European Green Deal, originally envisioned as the EU’s major strategy for achieving climate neutrality, is now facing significant political, social, and environmental challenges.
In Bankwatch’s comments on the EBRD’s draft Economic Governance Strategy (2026–2030), we expressed concern that the EBRD is placing too much emphasis on market-led reforms and private capital mobilisation, and far too little on the democratic safeguards and social and environmental protections needed for fair and sustainable governance.

But in a new joint civil society position paper, we argue that market integration can only work with a level playing field on environment and climate, and CBAM can contribute to this.
