The Just Transition Culture event took place in Eastern Wielkopolska in Poland on 21-25 June 2025. It was organised by activists and artists from three European just transition regions: Eastern Wielkopolska in Poland, Western Macedonia in Greece and Jiu Valley in Romania. The activities included art workshops, exhibitions, wall murals, the painting of a mining locomotive, concerts and study visits. Without the participation of the people you can see in this short film, who dedicated their time, energy and passion, the event would not have even taken place.

LIFE for nature: Why Europe’s flagship environmental programme must remain part of the next EU budget
For over 30 years, the LIFE programme has proven its worth as a highly effective resource for financing nature protection and restoration across Europe. It’s also widely considered one of the EU’s best performing funds.
Despite its vital role, however, the programme now risks being scrapped from the next EU budget, which would effectively remove the only dedicated source of EU funding for biodiversity in Europe.
Proposals for the next EU budget
The next EU budget (MFF), the cornerstone of the EU’s policy action, must respond to today’s multiple challenges by directing public spending towards building a more resilient, just and sustainable economy. It must also focus on making good use of the EU’s limited financial resources by following the horizontal principles of solidarity, cohesion, a just transition, human rights, transparency, partnership, ‘do no significant harm’ and ‘leave no one behind’.
