Svaneti is my homeland

Somewhere on the main road a big colourful sign that reads ‘Svan Travel Agency’ points to a steep dirt road. These easy-to-hitchhike three kilometres lead to Pari.

Despite the efforts of locals, this village is still not benefiting from tourism. There is lack of employment for young people and the planned Pari Hydropower Plant doesn’t seem to be a reliable opportunity.

The Svan Travel Agency or the youth group Let’s strengthen rural youth, are some of the outstanding initiatives to promote eco-tourism in the area. At the entrance of the school, visitors can buy handmade souvenirs from students.
