In March 2024, civil society groups submitted comments to the Asian Development Bank on the draft environmental and social impact assessment report for the first three phases of the 1.5-gigawatt Kungrad wind energy project in Uzbekistan.

Kungrad is one of several large-scale renewable projects featuring extensive transmission lines slated for remote, wild areas in Central Asia – an alarming practice that hinders the sustainable energy transition.
